politics
Over the summer, one of my AC units went out, and I had to call the company to come out and fix it. In my case it had to be replaced, I’ll save you the whole story it was expensive but now it works. I was chatting with someone the other day; we got on the topic of politics.
I’ve never cared much for politics; they are different than I am. I’m straightforward, logical and transparent. Those attributes don’t bode well in the political arena; quite the opposite is true. Back to what I’ve been thinking, each of us either does one of the three things when it comes to politics. We either don’t care, complain or think that we can make a difference.
Let’s be clear I have never been in politics and have no desire to be, we’ll get to that in a minute. I’ve listened to people complain about Obama, the Republicans, the Democrats, taxes and on and on and on. The truth is that none of it will ever change for the better, if anything it will get much worse. Here’s why I think that.
Politicians aren't meant to fix things, they are meant to quell the population, smile and deliver speeches. Most politicians are lawyers and trust I’ve had my fair share of lawyers in business, lawyers are a necessary evil, but for the most part lawyers are your mouthpiece in court. Often they will help you strategize, but rarely are they even 100% sure of the entire situation, if our legal system was void of formalities and statues and so on lawyers would be useless.
Personally, I’ve spent far more on lawyer bills than I have ever gotten back from any lawyer working with me. Lawyers aren’t problem solvers by and large; some of them do solve problems, but so does a fast food worker when it’s busy. The majority of all politicians are lawyers and lawyers argue, debate and posture.
Early in my career I worked in banking and so often the lawyers would hold up business for weeks debating about something trivial to prove a point to the other lawyer. It was only when the bankers got irritated did anything get done. I always remember thinking anything that ends up in legal is bound to die.
I’m not suggesting that being a lawyer isn’t tough - it is. The Democrats and the Republicans are nothing more than two very large group of lawyers arguing about who’s right in regards to running the biggest business in the world - the US. If you doubt me when I say the US is a business, look at how many other countries are impacted by our economy.
I've always been fascinated by how much Politician's focus their energy on Education. George W. Bush's No Child Left Behind (NCLB) was vital to his legacy, it's doubtful that he could make it through a children's book, he could barely string a sentence together. In my opinion it's best to leave education to the educators, not politicians and lawyers.
That’s why nothing gets done because the people in place to fix things have no real knowledge or skill at fixing anything. When I spoke earlier about my AC Unit, the guy who came out to fix it was a professional HVAC guy, not a lawyer. No one in their right mind would entrust a lawyer to fix anything unless it pertained to law. So why would we trust our futures to lawyers who very often fix nothing.
If you want something fixed you must first identify the problem, find someone that is qualified to fix it and then employ that person. A man or woman can not fix a problem unless they are aware of it and how to fix it, regardless of how many people like them. People go crazy for the elections, but at the end of the day nothing ever changes because the people we elect are always the same. Sure the names change, the color of their skin, their hair and some are men and others women, but that’s the extent of it.
When I first moved to NY, I took the Subway almost everywhere, once I made money I continued to do so. As time went on I would find myself complaining more about it because I was rising in the financial and social ranks. It bewilders me how a politician who has handlers for everything can even possibly attempt to understand the plight of a single mother working three jobs. Why do I say that because I couldn’t, why you ask because I’ve never been there, and chances are if they are want your vote they aren’t either.
In order to get things done, they must be worked on by people that can solve them and have the education necessary to do so. I encounter issues in business all the time and each time we will hire the best person to fix the issue as quickly as possible. It’s no wonder things get done pretty quick in business, so why wouldn’t the biggest company in the world follow the same advice - only they know.
So the next time you feel disgusted about something in Washington or anything politically related remember that a room full of lawyers is only a good thing if you own a law firm. If you want real change, then find problem solvers and employ them to fix the issues.
See you at the polls,
